A summary of the day.....

Hello all,

It's been a busy couple of days, but I managed to squeeze in some creative time tonight, hoping to post pictures in the next day or so.  For now I am pleased with the day's progress.... the bills are paid, my monthly expense sheet is complete, the plants are watered, the laundry has been put away, my bank book is balanced, 3 blog posts are lined up to automatically release, the kids got their 3 squares, the dog was walked and I didn't eat any junk food, unless you count popcorn which I don't ;)

Right now I am.....

listening... to the Daily Show
feeling.... relieved that I finally created three cards to demonstrate new techniques to an old friend
creating... the 3 aforementioned cards
wanting... to stay awake til after midnight to see if there are any flight sales
needing... to buy socks for Ian and the boys
thinking...   how lucky we are if that's all we need
enjoying... a quiet moment with the hubster
wondering... how long it will take to clean out my MIL's house and take care of her affairs.

thank you so much for stopping by!

Glimmermist Tutorial

Hello all!

It has been quite a week around our house already.  We are all out of sorts, we don't know if we are coming or going and we are just trying to complete as much of our to do lists as possible.  You see my Mum-in-law passed away late last Wednesday night, it was all of a sudden - completely unexpected as a result of a fall down the stairs.  Our eldest son was at her home at the time, he heard her fall and went running to help, he performed CPR, but could not revive her, nor could the  Paramedics.  He was a wreck.

As she was a widow and my husband an only child, there is an overwhelming amount of details that we will have to attend to now and in the next while in order to ensure all of her affairs are taken care of.  It has been an incredible blow to our children, our youngest especially as he has never had to deal with death and he doesn't understand why it had to be his Grandma. Today I wished my hugs could erase his tears.  Poor baby has had such a tough week:(

As a result I am behind on a few of my own to do's, not that anyone would really mind.  Usually my tutorials are completed a couple of days in advance, just in case.  This week I am down to the wire, it is 1 AM and I am finally getting it up onto the blog, ready to release in the morning.  Oh well.

I created this tutorial for ScrapMuch?, it is all about Glimmermisting and I thought I'd share it here too!  Don't forget to scroll down and turn off the sound on the music player first ;)

And here are some still pictures of the cards that were created on the video.....

Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate your time!  Hope you get some crafty time today!  And hug your babies a little more today.

Happy Birthday Timmy!

Hello and happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today is my littlest man's birthday, I cannot believe he turns 8 today, craziness!  Happy birthday Timmy, we love you to the moon and back!

My little man at the Rain Forest Cafe holding a 'hurricane'.

Last weekend we treated Timmy, our 2 foster sons, my nephew Jake and Timmy's long time friend Avery to  a weekend at the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark as a birthday celebration (thankfully my sister Kathy came along, too).

Today we are just taking it easy, enjoying the day and having one of Timmy's favourite treats.... I usually bake the kids a giant cookie on their actual birthday, if we have already celebrated on a weekend with the family and friends.

This is the card I made for my little leprechaun!

This card is not really masculine, but he's a softy so I can get away with it.  I bought these acrylic shamrocks with him in mind, then I had to figure out what to do with them.  After tearing apart the first card that I made, I decided to mount the shamrock onto a rub-on flower.  it worked out great and gave the shamrock a logical place to sit.  I also love these rub-on 'happy birthday's' although I keep forgetting I have them!  Here's a closer look.

Then I found myself with some free time, so I created more leprechaun birthday goodness!  First,  I decorated this gift bag and matching tag....

Then I decided he had to have a birthday badge ...

And then a banner seemed in order ....

So much shamrock fun!

Thanks for stopping by!

Pleated Cardstock Flower Tutorial

Hello blog friends!

I have another tutorial to share with you this week.  I created this video for  ScrapMuch?, and as a bonus I get to share it here, too!  This week I found a pleated cardstock flower to demo for you.  It's quick and easy and requires no special tool.  Hope you enjoy it. (Don't forget to scroll down and turn off the music before you start the video.)

I know the flower is a little hard to see in the video (still working on my video-ing skills), here is a closer look at the flower. You can see in the second picture that I added some inking to the edges, I really like t his effect, but it's personal choice.

And here is a look at the card that I created this flower for....

And a close up of the flower on the card....

Thanks for coming to visit me again! I love having you pop by.

i.scrap - Big Picture Classes

Hello all!

Just a reminder before I start this post, you can still get in on the draw for the laptop skins from Friday March 4th's post, just scroll down.

On thursday I started taking an online class at Big Picture Classes, called 'i.scrap' with Stacy Julian.  Having never done an online class before I was a little unsure of what to expect.  The class is broken down into two week long sessions, after completing the prep phase.  You do not need a week to do the work, but it's there to accommodate for fitting in the scrap time.  Basically, without giving away too much, the class is an introspective.  We are given phrases with which to  complete sentences and gather pictures from the last year that represent the phrases, then we move on to scrapping the phrases and photos, but not the sentences yet.  I was so pumped I started creating my 9 layouts, 1 for each of the 9 phrases and I just couldn't stop!  I got everything done in one afternoon and evening.  I can't believe I now have to wait a week for part two.  I am assuming part two will be the introspective writing /  journaling phase.  I am looking forward to this as I have been trying to incorporate more of MY words into my layouts.  This class is just the ticket to help me do this!

I am not sure if I will share, this album when I am done.  I will not know until I have all of my words down on paper if they will be share worthy or if I want to put my feeling out there.  We'll see.  In the meantime, I thought I'd share some of it before words are added.

Here is the title page ....

Yes I know, it is not coordinated / does not match., this is an intentional by product of the class.  The journaling on this was optional, I chose to add it.  I wrote.....

'Looking deeper than the event, the image, the pretty paper, the embellishments ... looking for the feelings behind the moments, realizing I am a lucky girl.  I love and I am loved.'

And here is one of the pages....

Before we knew what we were going to be doing we had to gather 1 sheet of patterned paper, 1 sheet of cardstock, a piece of ribbon and 5 embellishments for each of our 9 phrases / photos.  Then we had to choose 1 extra sheet  of cardstock and some matching paint in a colour that makes us happy.  Much to the chagrin  of many people I know, yellow is my happy colour. (I love lots of colours and never wear yellow, but it is my happiest colour and one that I use a lot in my home, which by the way has nothing to do with this photo, I just realized that now!)  I did not know we would be using this happy cardstock and paint on every page, when i learned this i was a little hesitant... how the heck would it match all of the papers that I chosen for all of the pictures?  Well, guess what/  It does, sort of, and i LOVE it!  Another thing i love is the painted journaling area, we stamped with our happy paint.  I have never done this before, but it has been on my scrappy bucket list, and I am so happy we did.  I LOVE this, too!  I especially love that my paint was all gloopy and blobby!  And finally we painted the edges of all of the pages... love this too!  Also, once thing I did not do... ink the edges of everything, i always ink, so for this i forced myself not to.  I am glad i didn't, it helps to reinforce the concept that this album is different, than my norm.

If you can't see it, the phrase for this photo is 'i was'... can you figure out what that refers to?  I shared this layout because it is one that i will likely be able to share the finished product for, like I said, we'll see.

Thanks again for stopping by, I really appreciate that you visit me!

A sketch to share

Good Morning all!

Today I am sharing a sketch over on the ScrapMuch? blog, and thought I'd share it here, too.

And here is a look at the layout that I based it on.

And as an added bonus, I am giving away this Laptop Skin.

Like most scrappers, I love bling, maybe you do too.  When I saw these skins at Chapters, I decided my laptop needed them!  It's hard to tell in the photo but it is silver and sparkly!

And then I thought my Cuttlebug did too!  This time they are blue and green and sparkly!

And then I thought, maybe you needed them too!  So if you would like a chance to win this package, just leave a comment on this post.  Anytime between now and Thursday the 10th at midnight (my time).  On Friday the 11th I will draw for a winner.  (These skins are completely removable should you decide to, down the road.)  Your comment doesn't have to be about anything in particular, you can tell me what you like, what you want to see, what you are working on, your blog address for me to check out, anything at all. Have fun!

Thanks for popping by!

March Reveals - ScrapMuch?, Little Yellow Bicycle,

Hello all!

Wow, it's that time of the month again!  I can't believe it's the first of March!  I can almost taste spring around the corner!

I was lucky enough to get some of Little Yellow Bicycle's Twig collection in my Design Kit from ScrapMuch? this month!  It is so beautiful and absolutely one of my favourite collections from CHA.  It feels like spring, though I would use it for a variety of layouts, and it is very gender neutral!

Here is a look at the items that were in my kit....

And here is what I created using the kit....

For this layout I 'interviewed' Timmy to find out some of his current favourites, I love doing this it is super fun to look back on these and see how much he has changed.

I love this picture of Timmy and his friends, Ally and Avery, such sweet little faces!  Once I saw the clouds and butterflies, this layout just screamed picket fence to me.  The fence is cut on my Cricut.

No matter where we go for a hike or walk, this kid always ends up with a giant collection of sticks.  Even on the walk home from school!  That being said, this little habit needed to be documented.

There are beautiful doilies that go along with this collection, unfortunately I didn't get them... so I cut this one on my's not great but I love the butterflies on this card.

The I decided to make a couple of home decor items.

I have had this birdhouse in with my scrap stuff for a while now, just waiting for the right paper to come along

This pot of flowers took so long to make, but it was so worth it, they are so lovely sitting on my shelf.

Thank you so much fro popping by the blog today to see what I have been up to!
